Unboxing System Center 2019 Orchestrator

Since middle of March 2019 System Center 2019 is general available.

The Setup contains also Service Management Automation (SMA) and Service Provider Foundation (SPF), like it is the setup of System Center 2012 R2 and System Center 2016.

The prerequisites check checks now if the SQL Server Native Client is installed and a download link (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=50402) will be provided.

SQL Server Native Client is needed for TLS 1.2 since System Center 2016 Update Rollup 4 and System Center 2012 R2 Update Rollup 14.

The Rest of the installation is the same as you know from the previous versions.

Since the begin of April 2019 the first release of the System Center 2019 – Orchestrator Integration Packs are also available: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58111&WT.mc_id=rss_alldownloads_devresources.

After deployment they are shown as  “SC 2016 …” in the name of the categories:

Microsoft anounced System Center 2019 at Ignite 2018 and in this session was also one slide about Orchestrator:

Yes, SCO 2019 can be installed on a SQL 2017 instance and supports TLS 1.2 encryption.

The “Run .Net Script” Activity runs the Powershell version of the Runbook Server now.  OnlyUseLatestCLR does not need to be set in the Registry for this anymore. If you used  invoke in the PowerShell Scripts to run the version of PowerShell Scripts (something like Invoke-Command or Powershell {# yourcode}) you do not need this complexity in System Center 2019 anymore.

We discussed a lot what should be “64 bit support”… Orchestrator is a 32bit program which can be installed on 64bit Windows since the first version System Center 2012. Perhaps Orchestrator is 64bit in System Center 2019 or at least Orchestrator can run 64bit PowerShell in the “Run .Net Script” Activity? … At this time not, Orchestrator is still 32bit and PowerShell in the “Run .Net Script” Activity executes still 32bit PowerShell. So, you need to invoke PowerShell if the cmdlet is only for 64bit …

The Orchestration Console runs still with Silverlight and the URL for Webservices is still http://scoweb.domain.com:81/orchestrator2012/orchestrator.svc/.
